Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been in the news since his return to the Bangladesh cricket team after a one-year suspension period. The star all-rounder created a stir on the first day when it was announced that he had scored a stunning 13.7 in the beep test, the highest among all players.

although Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) clarified that Shakib scored close to the benchmark score of 11 in the beep test today and is not the top scorer. A total of 113 players were called for the beep test for the trial process in light of the upcoming Bangabandhu T20 Cup. Shakib was expected to undergo his fitness test on Monday, but it was postponed to Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, BCB fitness trainer Tushar Kanti Halladar had announced that Shakib scored above 13 points in the beep test. However, it was later revealed that ace-two players received a stunning 13.7 – one of the players who gave the beep test as a condition for participating in the upcoming Bangabandhu T20 Cup later this month.

Mehdi Hasan emerged as top scorer of beep test

The news had generated widespread publicity in the cricket fraternity as many doubted Shakib’s fitness as he had not been active in the sport for the past one year. But disregarding all the statements made about Shakib’s beep test scores, the Bangladesh board classified that the cricketer managed to pass a bench score of just 11.

Fast bowler Mehdi Hasan emerged as the top scorer of the compulsory fitness test with 13.6 points while Nihad Uz Zaman is second on the list with a score of 13.4.

Al Hasan has been training at BKSP (Bangladesh Action Education Proticton) since September and is currently preparing for the Bangabandhu T20 Cup, with a draft of players for the tournament to be held on 12 November (Thursday). Along with the all-rounder, Bangabandhu is the name of more than 100 cricketers in the draft list for the T20 Cup. Shakib is listed in the same list as ‘A’ grade cricketer.
