BCCI planning to stage IPL from September 26
The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was supposed to take place from March 28 to May 2 has been suspended due to lockdown since the outbreak of the Coronavirus this year.
The BCCI president Saurav Ganguly has cleared that the board is considering to stage the IPL 2020 from September 26 this year.Cricket Australia (CA), on Tuesday, cleared that the T20 World Cup happening this year looks unrealistic.
The tentative dates are from September 26th to November 8th. from September 26 to November 8. These dates are subject to the expected postponement/cancellation of the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia.
“The IPL 2020 can be hosted closed doors, can be limited to fewer venues, can be taken overseas, can be even played without international players” This clearly proves the intent of the BCCI and tells that the Indian board is desperate to organize IPL 2020 and they are ready to make compromises
Considering that starting dates are in September, the restricted venues are expected to be in the south because the monsoon will not be very severe during those dates in Bangalore and Chennai. The bandwagon could move to Mumbai for the second half of the league if the COVID situation improves.
The IPL teams haven’t been officially informed about the plans yet but informal discussions are taking place as of now.
