The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to award a central contract to cricketers who have played a minimum of 10 T20 international matches in their careers. Earlier, only players participating in Test and ODI cricket were awarded contracts. However, it has been revealed that the world’s richest cricket board has brought some changes to its latest annual contracts.

When the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) was in operation, the BCCI did not give any weightage to the cricketers, who played only a few T20 matches. Before the COA appeared, cricketers with international experience, regardless of format, were covered under the board’s central contracting system.

But later, the eligibility criteria was revised to a minimum of seven ODIs or three Tests. Last year, an exception was made Washington beautiful A central contract was awarded, which was presumably shown in a shorter format.

BCCI brings a change

“The board has decided to replace the old section and add a new one, where a player who has played a minimum of 10 T20 games in a year can be given a central contract. In the new contract signed by the players, this clause was included.

“If a specialist is a T20 player, he should not be denied a central contract as his specialty is the shortest format,” an Indian Express source was quoted as saying.

For some time, the centrally contracted players of the BCCI have been separated into four categories. Category A, B, C and D get seven crore, five crore, three crore and one crore respectively.

Virat Kohli, captain of all formats Rohit SharmaLimited-overs vice-captain and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was placed in Category A for the 2019-20 contract.

Team India in Sydney

So far, Indian cricketers are currently in Australia for the T20I, ODI and Test series starting on 27 November. The players are present and training in Sydney after arriving in the capital of New South Wales on Thursday.

It was back in February that Indian players participated in an international game during their New Zealand tour. Recently, he ran a grueling campaign for a few months in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL).
