Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are two best batsmen in India at the moment. Both of them have led the country with the former being a regular skipper and Rohit leading the team in Kohli’s absence in the limited-overs format. While both play an equally important role in the side, their fans are always in a debate over who is a better cricketer, especially in white-ball formats.
However, former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg has given his verdict over the same picking India captain Virat Kohli as a better cricketer in coloured jersey between the two. He cited the 31-year-old’s ability to deliver in the run chases every now and then for the team as the reason. Though Hogg felt that one can’t compare the duo as their roles are completely different.
He reckons that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma complement each other really well as the latter takes the attack to the opposition in the powerplay. Kohli, on the other hand, has the responsibility to play through the innings either take the team to a decent total or win them the chase. “Well, Virat Kohli, because he’s more consistent when India have the big run chases as he stands up and delivers but you really can’t compare the two as they have different roles.
“Rohit’s role is to be aggressive against the new ball bowlers when field restrictions are at their least and Virat’s role is to bat through the innings and make sure he’s there at the end, so they complement each other,” Brad Hogg said while speaking on his official Youtube channel.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma – Heroes for India
There is no way one should compare the two brilliant batsmen. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have won India so many matches together and have been playing international cricket for more than a decade now. While the Indian skipper got going from the word go, especially in the 50-over format, and has so far scored 43 tons, it took a lot of time for Rohit to settle in.
However, he is the best opener in the ODI format since 2013 and has an unparalleled record at the position in the last seven years. He is currently regarded as the best batsman in the white-ball cricket thanks to his three double centuries in ODIs and four T20I tons.
