MS Dhoni has been an incredible player for India and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) over the years. His captaincy and finishing skills have been exceptional and former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis is a huge fan of the veteran. He has played with Dhoni at the CSK since 2011 and has spent enough time with him to know him thoroughly.

According to Du Plessis, he hasn’t played with a better finisher than Dhoni yet in his career. He is literally amazed the way the wicketkeeper-batsman keeps his calm in toughest of situations and manages to win the matches for his team. He also felt that no one should try to be like Dhoni ever.

“He’s (Dhoni) extremely calm. I haven’t played with someone who is a better finisher than him. It’s just remarkable to watch him from the side of the field. If someone else tries to do it like him they won’t be able to. He’s just so unique like he times the ball so late he’s got an incredible calmness. He knows his game and he picks a bowler and goes for it,” he said during a live session with Tamim Iqbal on Facebook.

Dhoni’s a very instinctive captain, says Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis also claims to have learnt a lot from MS Dhoni in terms of leadership abilities. Looking at the latter leading the team, the South African felt that he is completely different. He also feels that Dhoni has a very smart cricketing brain which has led to him making so many correct decisions in his career.

“It was amazing for me to see how different MS was as a captain. I used to think a captain must speak all the time in team meetings etc but MS was completely different. He doesn’t believe a lot in team meetings. He’s a very instinctive captain he’s got such a good cricket brain that he relies on it to make the right decisions on the field,” the 35-year-old added.

Faf du Plessis also terms himself lucky to be part of the CSK in the IPL over the years and is enjoying his journey with the team. “I’m lucky to have started my journey there at CSK because I have really learned a lot from a leadership point of view. I tried to learn as much as possible from Dhoni and Stephen Fleming because both are great captains,” the former Proteas skipper concluded.
