‘I thought I would not get to play even a single game’ – Ruturaj Gaikwad on his IPL 2020 journey

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad impressed everyone with his flexibility and class. Although his franchise was the first team to be eliminated from the IPL 2020, he stole the show in the last three matches. Gaikwad was the Man of the Match in CSK’s last three matches. However, his journey this season was not as smooth as it looked.

He was one of the two players who tested positive COVID-19 After landing in the UAE. His dream of playing his first IPL match ended with swab tests and goals. Youngster shared his experience of his first IPL in an interview with Indian Express.

He said, ‘I thought I would have to sit out of this IPL. It was difficult to test positive for Kovid-19 and stay locked in a hotel room for 22 days. It was my dream to play for Chennai Super Kings. As the 14-day quarantine came to an end, more bad news erupted at a feverish pace. Another positive Kovid test, another week of isolation and fear. “When I got worried. I felt that I would not get to play a single game, ”said Gaekwad.

He recalled how his idol and CSK captain inspired him with his words during the separation. He was watching TV-series and while he was on a zoom call with his teammates M S Dhoni He said, “Let’s face it with a smile, it will be over in 14 days.”

However, the dreadful days of Ruturaj Gaikwad did not end after his quarantine as his IPL career started badly. But he left it behind and ended the season on a memorable note. He scored three match-winning half-centuries and his tremendous talent was praised by the entire cricket fraternity.

Ruturaj expresses this by helping the roller coaster ride in the IPL to grow as a person. “IPL has made me a better person. I have realized that in life, nobody should take anything for granted. I have now learned to enjoy the game and remain in the present because with so much happening in the world, you never know what the future holds, ”he concluded.
