Ian Bishop picks his ODI eleven of the decade, leaves out Jasprit Bumrah for Lasith Malinga

One of the finest analysts and commentators around, Ian Bishop, has dispensed his insights on the game at several coveted tournaments over the years.

Bishop, who has one of the best voices and mind in the game, recently picked the best ODI XI of the past decade.

There, he made a few interesting selections and omissions to raise a few eyebrows. The former West Indies fast bowler gave his verdict during a chat with Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz.

At the opening slot, it was a no-brainer to go ahead with Rohit Sharma, who has notched up three double-centuries in the last seven years, including the highest individual score of 264 in ODI cricket.

Bishop paired him up with Australia’s batting mainstay David Warner, who has been prolific in the Odys in the last decade.

At number three, he made the obvious choice of the Virat Kohli, who is currently the best One-day batsman in the world. After that, the former South African international AB de Villiers occupies the number four slot to complete a formidable top order.

In the middle-order, the Bishop went ahead with the talisman from New Zealand and Bangladesh, Ross Taylor and Shakib al Hasan.

MS Dhoni comes in as the finisher in the lineup and also undertakes the dual responsibility of captain and wicketkeeping, which he has aced for India in the last decade.

As far as the bowling attack was concerned, the Bishop went ahead with a three-pronged pace attack featuring Mitchell Starc, Dale Steyn and Lasith Malinga, but could not find a place for India’s spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. The sole spinner in the lineup was Afghanistan’s leggie Rashid Khan.
