‘If you drop catches off my bowling, you know what’s coming’ – S Sreesanth hits out at Robin Uthappa for ‘sitters’ comment
S Sreesanth, the tainted Indian fast bowler, has vented his frustration on Robin Uthappa after the latter said that he is known for dropping sitters. Uthappa said that Sreesanth was lucky enough to take Misbah-ul-Haq’s catch in the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. India won the match by five runs after Pakistan was all out.
Meanwhile, Sreesanth said that there were a lot of complaints against Uthappa for dropping too many catches. In the previous season, Uthappa plied his trade for Kerala after moving on from Karnataka. Sreesanth also gave him a bit of a heads-up, asking him to improve his catching.
Moreover, Sreesanth said that he would be plying his trade for Kerala in the near future. After he got tangled in the fixing scandal during the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the speedster hasn’t played any form of competitive cricket.
In my whole career, I dropped only 4-5 catches: S Sreesanth
“I don’t know how many catches Uthappa took in his overall career, he played for Kerala last season, there were many complaints that he dropped many sitters. I will soon join and play alongside him in Kerala team, I wanted to say to him, please don’t drop catches in my bowling.
“Juniors who played alongside you last season might not have said you anything when you dropped catches, but if you drop catches off my bowling, you know what I am going to do,” Sreesanth was quoted as saying during a Hello Live session.
“In my whole career, I dropped only 4-5 catches in my 8 years of international career and 10-15 catches in my whole professional career. While training, even Jonty Rhodes drops catches,” he added.
As far as catching is concerned, Uthappa has taken 263 catches and has effected 48 stumpings in his career. He also kept wickets, efficiently, for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He wasn’t a specialist keeper, yet managed to impress one and all with his keeping prowess. S Sreesanth, on the other hand, has taken only 35 catches in his entire career.
