Considered as one of the best in the business, Jasprit Bumrah has emerged an indispensable asset of the Men in Blue. Since breaking into the national side, Bumrah, with his sheer pace and pinpoint accuracy, has paved his way to becoming a world-class bowler.

The Gujarat speedster, combining his unconventional bowling action with his pace, has wreaked havoc on many batting forces. Bumrah’s unique bowling action has caught the eye of many experts as he has reached new heights in such a short span of time.

Talking to Ian Bishop and Shaun Pollock on an ICC Podcast, Bumrah talked about the reason behind his unique and unorthodox bowling action. “Basically, I have never been coached a lot. No professional coaching or camps. Till date, everything is self-taught, everything, through TV, videos. There is no proper reason for action,” Bumrah said.

Lack of space was the reason behind my short run-up: Jasprit Bumrah

“I have never really listened to people who told that action needs to be changed, kept on developing on strengths if I could have self-belief,” he added.

“Playing in the backyard,” Bumrah explained the reason behind developing his peculiar action. Talking about his short yet effective run-up, the speedster said that lack of space was the reason behind his eight-step run-up.

“My run-up is because of that as we didn’t have so much of space, so this (8 step run-up) is the longest that you could have had, maybe this could have been the case,” Bumrah further said.

“I have tried longer run-up and nothing changes, speed is still the same so why to run so much,” added the speedster.

While donning the Indian jersey in 14 Tests, 64 ODIs and 50 T20Is, the 26-year-old speedster has plucked 68, 104 and 59 wickets respectively. He last braced the field in the Christchurch Test against New Zealand where Virat Kohli’s men suffered a thumping seven-wicket defeat.

Bumrah was set to don the Mumbai Indians jersey in IPL 2020. However, due to the indefinite postponement of the cash-rich league, fans are eagerly waiting to see the speedster back in action.
