MS Dhoni is best wicketkeeper in India, would pick him in the T20 world cup team: BCCI Treasurer

The Treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Anirudh Chaudhary, has tagged legendary Indian cricketer, MS Dhoni as the best wicketkeeper in India, and would pick him for the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Since the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in March, the clouds have been looming over the chances of Dhoni making a comeback into the side.

A good IPL 2020 season for his beloved Chennai Super Kings (CSK) meant Dhoni boarding the flight to Australia for the showpiece event of the year in October-November.

The last time Dhoni took part in a competitive game of cricket was during the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup in July.

With age catching up, the news of Dhoni retiring did several rounds on social media last week. However, the rumors were baseless, as clarified by his wife Sakshi Singh.

“Dhoni is fit, he is the best wicketkeeper in India and one of the finest minds in the game. During a match, you would see him asking a player to move to his right, and then to the left. The player would end up standing in the same place, but the idea is to make him alert. Before that, his mind might have been wavering a bit. If I were a decision-maker, I would have him in the team,” Chaudhary said during a seminar organized by Neerja Modi School on the Zoom.

Further into the conversation, Chaudhary delved into the topic of relations with the former cricketers. The BCCI of late was accused of not treating their legends well.

“Within the BCCI, we share a very good relationship with the players. Among the other things which I have seen, we have been blessed with players who would come up with suggestions also. A (Virender) Sehwag coming and giving you a suggestion. MS Dhoni…Sachin had his own way of communicating,” he added.

Chaudhary concluded the interaction by stating that the fate of the IPL 2020, lies with the Governing Council. But the revenue generated from the cash-rich league also holds to squeeze the utmost importance, along with the opportunities provided for domestic players.
