‘Racism is not only in football, it’s in cricket too’ – Universe Boss Chris Gayle condemns the death of George Floyd

George Floyd, an African-American man, died after being arrested by police outside a shop in Minneapolis. The incident took place on May 25 and its video spread like wildfire on social media. In the little footage, a white police officer can be seen pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck for several minutes, until he breathed his last.

The police officer, Derek Chauvin, has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter and he will appear in court next week. Floyd’s death has resulted in many protests across the United States and the whole world, at the moment, is condemning the tragic incident. The United States has witnessed many protests so far and many people are raising their voice against the issue of racial abuse.

The protests rose to such an extent that hundreds of people, on Friday night, gathered outside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and the White House was surrounded by chaos. President Donald Trump was also rushed to an emergency bunker underneath the White House which was built for security reasons.

Many well-known personalities have also vented out their anger and disappointment towards the incident. West Indies’ Chris Gayle has also echoed his voice over the issue.

‘Black lives matter just like any other life’: Chris Gayle

The swashbuckling opener also revealed that he himself has experienced racial remarks while travelling the world. Gayle, in his Instagram story, said that racism is not limited to football. Racism is prevalent in cricket too, according to the West Indies international.

“Black lives matter just like any other life! Black people matter! P***k all racist people! Stop taking black people for fools! Even our own black people, wise the p***k up and stop bringing down your own ffs!!! I’ve travel the globe and experience racial remarks towards me because I’m Black, believe me… the list goes on!!”

“Racism is not only in football, it’s in cricket too!! Even within teams as a Black man I get the end of the stick!!! Black and Powerful! Black and Proud!” Gayle wrote in his Instagram story.

A plethora of sportspersons have expressed their concern over the incident. Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford have also rued the incident.
