There are speculations that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to expand the Indian Premier League (IPL) by adding another team. Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid endorsed the idea as he felt it would give more opportunities to young cricketers, who are looking to make a global statement with their exemplary performances.

Dravid, the head of India’s National Cricket Academy, feels that this is the right team to bring in the ninth team as there are still many young players who are not getting opportunities to express themselves on a large scale. The former wicketkeeper-batsman of the Indian cricket team helped many under-19 cricketers establish themselves in the cricket fraternity.

“From a purely talent perspective, I think we are ready for an expansion. It is heartening to see the under-19 boys who establish themselves not only for their state teams but also in the IPL. But many more are not really getting opportunities.

Dravid said during the launch of New Innings, “They are very out of place in these teams because the quality of cricket is very good and there are many good and experienced players.”

Mumbai Indians have very good scouting structure: Rahul Dravid

The IPL franchise is one of the most successful teams in the history of Mumbai Indians (MI) T20 Championship. They have emerged as winners on record five times. Explaining the reason behind Mumbai’s feats in the IPL, Dravid said that MI has a very good scouting structure and has supported many young talents like Jaspreet Bumrah, Rahul Chahar, Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan.

“That’s why Mumbai Indians have been so good. What they have done in the last four-five years is to maintain a strong core of really high quality players and mix with some good young talent. “

He said, “He managed to get Jaspreet Bumrah and Hardik Pandya in place at an early age, fielded Rahul Chahar and supported Ishan Kishan. Suryakumar Yadav A young player because he has been for some time, a big part of his success is due to the very good scouting structure, ”the former captain said.

Further in the conversation, the 47-year-old praised the officials for providing a platform in the form of the IPL, where young players get the opportunity to rub shoulders with the greatness of the game and express themselves in a more effective way.

“Now IPL is not just about the top tier. In Indian cricket in the past, when young players were looking for opportunities, they got the only place from the state associations. He needed to play for the Ranji Trophy team in his state, but due to the IPL today, you can be from Karnataka and you can play for Mumbai, ”concluded Rahul Dravid.
