Report: BCCI paid Rs 100 crore to Emirates Cricket Board to host IPL 2020

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has paid a large sum to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) of UAE for the allegedly concluded IPL 2020. The ECB came to the rescue of the BCCI during the pandemic and helped organize the IPL at bay. The country was in danger of a complete cancellation of the IPL at a time when cases were rising at alarming rates in India.

The cancellation would be a major setback for the BCCI as it would result in a loss of over INR 400 crore in revenue. But thanks to the ECB, the BCCI overcame all obstacles and managed to successfully conduct the tournament in the United Arab Emirates. Not a single person tested positive for COVID-19 after the tournament began on 19 September.

Before the start of the tournament, 13 members of Chennai Super Kings Tested positive but it was. After that, the tournament proceeded without interruption. The IPL 2020 ended last week between Mumbai Indians and the Delhi capitals in Dubai. Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi by five wickets to retain their title.

BCCI pays a large amount to ECB

According to Bangalore Mirror, BCCI has paid ECB INR 100 crore bonus for IPL 2020. The report states that BCCI has paid $ 14 million to stage the tournament in Dubai, Sharjah, And Abu Dhabi. However, the amount considering staging associations in India would earn Rs 60 crore for 60 sports.

As per the new rules, the state association will get Rs 1 crore to host an IPL game. The BCCI has recently increased the hosting fee for a franchise from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh for each match. As per the rules, the board had to match the amount paid by the franchise, thus enabling the state association to earn Rs 1 crore per game.

The fees of Rs 100 crore were not merely a financial boost achieved by the United Arab Emirates. In addition, the IPL also added substantially to the UAE business, with 14 five-star hotels packed for nearly three months. The IPL provided a windfall for the UAE.
