The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 looks all set to be moved out of the country this year due to COVID-19. BCCI hinted that UAE and Sri Lanka are front runners for the IPL this year.

BCCI is waiting for the official confirmation of the delay of world cup 2020 before taking any final decision regarding IPL. ICC has conducted a number of meetings regarding the world cup but the final decision is expected by the third week of July.

BCCI is not interested to cancel the league and is thinking to organise the tournament in September-October. BCCI will suffer a loss of more than 4000 crores if they cancel the IPL.

This is not the first time that IPL can be scheduled out of the country. In 2009, the complete tournament was organized in South Africa, and in 2014, the first 20 matches were played in UAE.

“We are yet to decide the venue, but it is going outside this year. The condition in India is not suited to have so many teams come in at one or two venues and create atmosphere that will safe for the player. The race is between UAE and SL and we will need to decide depending upon the situation of coronavirus pandemic there. We will decide soon.” BCCI official told.
