On Saturday, Virat Kohli caught up with his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin and talked about India’s match against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup in Bangladesh. It was the game in which the Delhi-born Kohli notched his highest ODI score of 183. The Tamil Nadu off-spinner hosts a show from his official Instagram handle and it was now the time for his captain to talk about a certain occurring.

During this discussion, Kohli revealed an incident which happened during the time when India were fielding at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The 31-year-old recalled a moment when he had a nasty collision with Rohit Sharma on the field and it resulted in the Pakistan team getting extra runs.

Kohli also revealed that Dhoni who was captain at the time, didn’t like what happened. The now Indian skipper said that Dhoni was not happy with the fielding effort for the fact that the two had given some extra runs to the opposition.

“It was very funny and I remember MS wasn’t too happy about it. Pakistan, I think, had posted 329 and they had some very big partnerships in the beginning. At that time we (he and Rohit) sort of messed up, it was supposed to be single but we gave away three runs,” recalled Kohli in the interview with Ashwin.

We went for the ball and like for five minutes couldn’t figure out what had happened: Kohli

“I remember Irfan (Pathan) running after the ball and throwing it back to MS and MS was like how can these two guys just collide and give away three runs. The bowler was you (Ashwin). I remember Umar Akmal played it like that, I was at deep mid-wicket and Rohit was at deep square-leg.

I came in, Rohit was also going for the ball and the side of my head hit Rohit’s shoulder. Don’t think it was that serious, it was just the heat of the moment when we went for the ball and like for five minutes couldn’t figure out what had happened,” said Kohli.

The incident had taken place during Pakistan’s innings. India had to win the match by any cost to ensure qualification. Batting first, the arch-rivals posted a total of 329. During the chase, Sachin Tendulkar got India off to a good start by scoring a fifty and thereafter, Kohli took over.

He smashed 183 runs off just 148 balls and helped India chase down the huge total. It was India’s highest run chase at the time. Rohit also played a handy knock of 68 and had a great partnership with Kohli. India finished the chase with 13 balls to spare. Interestingly, this turned out to be Tendulkar’s last ODI.
