As of the ongoing 13th edition Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) is heading towards its business end, three franchises namely Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been eliminated from the tournament while Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) And Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are still fighting for a place in the playoffs.

IPL 2020 has made all the franchisees well aware of the shortcomings in their squads and they must wait eagerly to add strength to their team and come to auction for IPL 2021. The franchises were awaiting a mega auction later this year to give their teams a facelift.

However, there were earlier reports that the mega auction which was scheduled to take place before IPL 2021 is likely to end due to COVID-19. However, no official announcement was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Clarifying the BCCI’s stance, Chairman Sourav Ganguly revealed that the board is yet to take a final decision on whether there will be a mini or mega auction for 2021.

BCCI plans to host IPL 2020 in India

“We have not decided anything yet. Let this season end, we’ll make a call, ” BCCI President Ganguly was quoted as saying that Hindustan Times asked about the auction next year.

In addition, Ganguly said that the Indian board is eager to host the next edition of the cash-rich league if COVID-19 improves in the country and replaces the vaccine. Ganguly also mentioned that although his first priority would be India, he would keep the UAE as a back-up option for IPL 2021.

The next season is likely to start in April or May next year. Ganguly said on hosting IPL 2021 in India, “Hopefully by that time this vaccine will be out and we can host it.”

The 2020 edition of the T20 Championship is one of the most exciting seasons ever in history. All eight franchises were desperately seeking a place in the league playoffs. Also, this is the first time the team’s kitty finished 12 points on the Rajasthan Royals’ points tally.
